I love vrystaat, I always feel close to my roots when I am there and glad your aunt is living there for now. As a kid my father will take us to Ficksbug almost every year. We will visit my grandma and I have great memories of the place. As I came of age I continued the tradition and went there every year with my ex to see my grandparents. We will drive together and enjoy the open field of the of the province that Nelson Mandela describes so well in Long Walk To Freedom. He will then book himself in a B+B in town while I go see your great grandma. We did this every year until she passed on. I now have no reason to visit as often, I practically have no immediate family in the province anymore except now for your aunt studying there. I went to Bloem on my way back from Cape Town and coming back on the way I was reminded of so much. The place has a calming effect on me,my father is from the free state and my mom's family is also from there. My dad has in his on way instilled in me a sense of pride about being "ngwanana wa mosotho". Its always so wonderful to have almost everyone around speaking fluent sotho with the right accent. Your aunt Betty loves the accent so much pity none of us have it but it sure feels good being surrounded by people one considers "basotho". I will love to own a piece of land in the province one day even if its a holiday home. The land resonate with me!
